The Foundry was instituted to introduce a series of stronger weapons in a realm where most warriors use plastic, light weapons. Pathfinder has its roots in Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition, when the new publishing company Paizo was determined to keep the beloved system of D&D3e alive during the much-maligned era of D&D4e. In the years since then, Pathfinder has grown to include a sci-fi alternate game taking place in the future, called Starfinder, and a second edition with streamlined gameplay.
